Betty’s suite is a real treat – there is no better private retreat for two in Shela. This very special apartment consists of a double bedroom with an antique ‘pilipili’ bed, a charming ensuite bathroom, roof terrace, covered veranda, living and dining areas and spectacular private infinity pool.

From the suite there are lovely and uninterrupted views across gardens and palm trees to the Lamu channel. The seafront and the start of the island’s wonderful 8-mile beach are within 50 metres, and all the attractions of Shela village including Peponi Hotel are just moments away.

The apartment’s lovely sunken bath was featured in Conde Nast Traveller as one of the magazine’s top ten baths-with-a-view. “We love a hotel with a great view” they wrote “but it takes a really special property to ensure there’s a stunning panorama from the tub.” And the bathroom also has an exceptional throne-like lavatory set in its own special alcove with elaborate trifoliate archway.

Guests can select what they would like to eat from a guideline menu – there is always a delicious selection of fish and seafood available – snapper, tuna, crab, calamari, prawns and oysters – and the chef has a wide repertoire of other dishes.

“I can’t imagine a more perfect place to have your honeymoon. It is absolutely stunning, the service is great, the village is scenic and you have your own infinity pool. We felt totally spoilt, had time to relax and bond and there were plenty of activities to keep us occupied. Ask Nina the manager to make suggestions and arrangements – she has great tips for things to do and places to go and it seemed like there was nothing she couldn’t organise.”

The staff will do all food shopping and take great care to find the best and freshest ingredients – all food and drink is charged to guests ‘at cost’ and recorded in a book of accounts always available for guests to review.

Included in the stay are private transfers from and to the airport, the services of your own chef and room steward and those of an on-site manager who can help organise all kinds of local activities and excursions. There’s also a complimentary laundry service and wifi internet.
